Before starting work, set the soldering iron temperature within the 250-350°C range. For most applications the optimum temperature is around 300°C. Wait until the tip reaches a stable working temperature. The surfaces to be soldered should be clean, degreased and free from oxide layers.
Place the heated soldering iron tip against the joint, then bring the solder wire to the point where the tip meets the parts being soldered. The solder should melt on contact with the heated parts, not directly on the tip. Once a sufficient amount of alloy has flowed, withdraw the solder first and then the soldering iron tip.
Solder should be stored in a dry place at room temperature, away from sources of moisture. Moisture can degrade the flux contained in the wire core. Once the packaging has been opened, it should be resealed to keep out air so that the soldering properties of the product are preserved.
