A bar-type Torx key made from chrome vanadium steel, designed for working with TORX T20 screws and bolts. The extended design provides access to fasteners in deep recesses and hard-to-reach places.
Technical characteristics of the T20 Torx key
TORX T20 profile
The six-lobed star profile provides a larger contact area than conventional hex keys. Size T20 corresponds to a recess internal diameter of approximately 3.86 mm. The Torx profile minimises the risk of damaging the screw recess and allows higher torque to be transmitted with less force.
Extended shank design
The long shank allows work with fasteners seated deep in recesses, mounting holes and technical channels. This solution is used in the automotive industry, precision mechanics and furniture making, where standard keys do not provide sufficient working reach.
CrV chrome vanadium steel
The steel alloy with added chromium and vanadium is characterised by increased hardness (typically 50-58 HRC) and wear resistance. Chrome plating of the surface protects against corrosion in a workshop environment. The material retains its mechanical properties under repeated load and long-term use.
Bar-type design
A bar-type key has no handle or grip – torque is transmitted directly through the shank. This design keeps the dimensions compact, allows work in confined spaces and makes it possible to use sockets or extensions together with impact tools.

Compatibility and size selection
Verifying the TORX recess size
Size T20 is one of the most common Torx profiles in the automotive and furniture industries. Before buying, check the marking on the screw or bolt (T20, TX20) or measure the recess diameter – for T20 it is approximately 3.86 mm. Using a key of the wrong size damages the screw profile and makes removal impossible.
Difference between TORX and TORX Plus
The TORX Plus system (marked IP instead of T) has a modified profile with shallower indentations. TORX and TORX Plus keys are not fully compatible – using the wrong type can damage the recess. Check the marking on the fastener before use.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check the condition of the key profile – damaged edges can wear down the screw recess. Insert the key perpendicular to the screw axis, ensuring it is fully seated in the recess. Torque should be applied smoothly, without impacts.
After use, clean the key of contaminants and protect it from moisture. The chrome-plated surface requires periodic checking for coating damage. Storing in a dry environment extends tool life and prevents corrosion.
Work safety
When using bar-type keys, wear work gloves to protect the hands from injury. Do not use extensions that increase leverage beyond the values recommended by the manufacturer – this can break the key or damage the fastener. For seized screws, use penetrating oil and increase force gradually.
