The kit contains every component required to carry out a repair: an HSS drill bit for preparing the hole, an HSS tap for cutting the new thread, an insertion tool, a punch for fitting the inserts and the thread repair inserts. There is no need to buy any additional tools.

Thread repair process
Thread repair with wire thread inserts involves enlarging the damaged hole with an HSS drill bit to a diameter matching the outer diameter of the insert. A new, larger-diameter thread is then cut using the supplied tap. The thread repair insert is screwed into the prepared hole with the insertion tool. Once fitted, the insert forms an internal thread to the original M5 x 0.8 dimensions, allowing a standard bolted connection.
Checking the thread size
Before starting the repair, verify the dimensions of the damaged thread with a reference bolt or a thread gauge. An M5 x 0.8 thread is a metric connection with a nominal diameter of 5 mm and a standard pitch of 0.8 mm. Using the wrong repair kit may result in an incorrect joint.
Personal protective equipment
When working with the repair kit, wear safety goggles to protect against flying metal swarf. Work gloves are recommended, and the work area should be adequately ventilated. HSS tools can become hot during drilling and thread cutting.
