The KD10223 is a 13-piece set of HSS high-speed steel drill bits in sizes from 1.5 to 6.5 mm, designed for drilling into metal, wood and plastics. The bits are milled and finish-ground, which translates into consistent cutting-edge geometry and stable performance at higher spindle speeds.
Set features
HSS high-speed steel
HSS (high-speed steel) is an alloy with increased heat and wear resistance. The bits retain their cutting-edge hardness even under intensive use, which extends the interval between regrinds compared with carbon steel bits.
130° point angle
The 130° point (instead of the standard 118°) performs well when drilling harder metals — it reduces the tendency of the bit to wander and makes it easier to centre the hole without using a centre punch. With wood and plastics it causes no problems with entry.
Ground finish
Grinding the working surface after milling produces a more accurate profile of the flutes and cutting edges than milling alone. This translates into less runout during drilling and a cleaner exit hole.
Straight shank and right-hand spiral
The straight shank fits standard drill chucks and cordless drills with keyless chucks. The right-hand cutting direction is a universal solution, compatible with operation at the standard spindle rotation direction.

Applications
The set contains 13 sizes, which allows holes to be drilled for standard M2–M6 metric screws, dowels, hinges and cable grommets without having to buy individual bits. Typical workpiece materials:

Choosing the right drill bit size for a metric screw
When drilling clearance holes for metric screws, use a drill bit with a diameter equal to the nominal diameter of the screw (e.g. M4 — a 4 mm bit). When tapping a hole, choose a bit matching the core diameter of the thread — for M4 this is approximately 3.3 mm and for M5 approximately 4.2 mm. The KD10223 set covers the ranges useful for tapping M2–M8, depending on the thread pitch used.
Use and maintenance
HSS bits perform most efficiently when the speed is matched to the diameter and hardness of the material — a smaller diameter requires higher speeds, a harder material lower speeds. When drilling metal, the use of a cutting fluid or tapping oil is recommended, as this lowers the temperature of the cutting edge and extends tool life.
After use, clean the bits of swarf and store them in the supplied case, avoiding contact between the cutting edges. If the cutting edge becomes blunt, HSS bits can be sharpened on a drill bit sharpener while maintaining the original 130° point angle.
