An 8.5 mm diameter drill bit made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating and a hex shank. Designed for drilling into structural, stainless and cold-rolled steel.
The titanium nitride layer increases the surface hardness of the drill bit to around 2400 HV, which translates into a service life three times longer than that of uncoated HSS drill bits. The coating reduces the coefficient of friction, which lowers the temperature during drilling and reduces tool wear.
Hex-type shanks prevent the drill bit from rotating in the chuck of a drill or impact driver. This system transmits the full torque without slipping, which is crucial when drilling hard grades of steel.
A specially shaped split point eliminates the need to centre punch the material beforehand. The drill bit self-centres at the point where drilling begins, which speeds up work and improves the accuracy of hole positioning.
A sharper angle compared with the standard 118° reduces the thrust force required to start drilling. This geometry is optimised for work in medium- and high-hardness steels, minimising the risk of the drill bit slipping.

The 1/4" (6.35 mm) hex shank is compatible with hammer drills, cordless drill drivers with a keyless chuck and SDS adaptors. Make sure the tool has a suitable chuck or adaptor before starting work.
Appropriate rotational speeds should be used when drilling into steels – for an 8.5 mm diameter in structural steel, around 800-1000 rpm is recommended. Too high a speed causes the drill bit to overheat and shortens its service life.
Cutting fluid should be used, particularly when drilling stainless and difficult-to-machine steels. Oil emulsions or dedicated metalworking fluids extend the service life of the drill bit and improve the quality of the holes produced.
Once work is finished, the drill bit should be cleaned of swarf and protected against corrosion. The TiN coating is resistant to oxidation, but storing the tool in a dry place provides additional protection. Regularly checking the sharpness of the cutting edges allows wear to be detected early.
Structural steel S235: 800-1000 rpm, feed 0.1-0.15 mm/rev. Stainless steel: 400-600 rpm, feed 0.08-0.12 mm/rev with intensive cooling. Cold-rolled steel: 900-1100 rpm, feed 0.12-0.18 mm/rev.
