A budget-type mortice latch designed for fitting in internal doors. A deadbolt-free solution, intended for rooms that do not require locking with a key.
A budget latch has no key-operated deadbolt mechanism. The mechanism is responsible solely for the latch bolt operated by the handle, which simplifies the design and lowers the cost of fitting.
The latch is fitted into a recess cut in the door leaf. It requires a mortice of the correct dimensions to be routed out, which conceals the mechanism neatly inside the door.
A solution designed for room-to-room doors, where there is no need to lock the room with a key. It provides only the function of closing and holding the door leaf.
The latch works with standard door handles. The hole centres and the type of square spindle must be matched in accordance with fitting standards.

A budget latch has no key-operated deadbolt mechanism. A standard mortice lock is fitted with a deadbolt that locks the door when the key is turned. A budget latch is limited to a latch bolt operated by the handle, which is sufficient in rooms that do not need to be locked. This solution lowers the purchase and fitting cost.
Fitting a mortice latch requires a mortice to be prepared in the door leaf with a router. The dimensions of the mortice must match the body of the latch. Holes must be drilled for the square spindle of the handle and for the latch bolt at the door face. Once the latch is seated in the mortice, it is secured with fixing screws. The strike plate is fitted in the door frame, with its position matched to that of the latch bolt.
Checking compatibility requires verification of the hole centres for the handle and the type of spindle. The standard centres are 72 mm or 90 mm, and the square spindle has a cross-section of 8x8 mm. Before fitting, make sure that the thickness of the door leaf allows the latch to be seated in full.
The latch mechanism requires periodic lubrication with a silicone or graphite lubricant. Mineral oils should not be used, as they can cause dust to accumulate. If the door is difficult to close, check the alignment of the strike plate in the door frame and the condition of the latch spring. Regular cleaning of the latch mortice extends the life of the mechanism.
