Panel beating hammer 225 g fibreglass GEKO G72240

Panel beating hammer with a high-carbon steel head and a fibreglass shaft. Designed for shaping sheet metal and other metal components, and for tasks that require a precise strike without the risk of damaging the surface.

Head weight225 g
Shaft materialFibreglass
Overall length310 mm
Head materialHigh-carbon steel

Key features

High-carbon steel head

High-carbon steel gives the working face hardness and resistance to deformation under repeated strikes. The profiled shape, with a round face and a ball peen, allows precise shaping of sheet metal in hard-to-reach areas.

Fibreglass shaft

Fibreglass offers mechanical strength comparable to wood, while being more resistant to moisture, temperature changes and UV radiation. The material neither cracks nor delaminates during use.

TPR grip with vibration absorption

Thermoplastic rubber (TPR) combines the flexibility of rubber with the strength of plastic. Deep grooves provide a secure hold even with damp hands, and the structure of the material damps the vibrations transmitted to the wrist during work.

225 g weight – all-round use

A 225 g head strikes a balance between striking force and precise control. It is sufficient for effectively shaping steel sheet up to 1.5 mm thick, while still delivering accuracy on more delicate work.

Applications

  • Straightening and shaping car body panels during panel beating repairs
  • Bending and forming steel sheet components up to 1.5 mm thick
  • Vehicle body repair work – removing dents and uneven areas
  • Fitting and aligning sheet metal components in construction
  • Precision work requiring a soft strike without damaging the surface
  • Forming components in metalworking and sheet metal workshops
  • Installation work on ventilation and air conditioning systems (shaping ductwork)

How panel beating hammers differ from standard hammers

Panel beating hammers have a distinctive head shape – the round face spreads the striking force evenly over a larger area, which prevents thin sheet metal from being punctured. The ball peen is used for precise shaping in recesses and hard-to-reach areas. Standard engineer's hammers have a flat face and are designed for work that requires greater striking force.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check that the head is seated securely on the shaft. Fibreglass does not require impregnation, but prolonged storage in direct sunlight should be avoided.

After finishing work, it is worth cleaning the face of any metal debris, which could otherwise leave marks on subsequent components. The TPR grip can be cleaned with a damp cloth – the material is resistant to most solvents, but intensive contact with petrol or acetone may cause it to lose its flexibility.

A fibreglass shaft does not crack or delaminate as wood does, but strikes with the side of the shaft should still be avoided – these can damage the fibre structure and weaken its strength.
