A pilot drill bit made from high-speed steel (HSS), designed for drilling pilot holes in metal, wood and plastics. A 6 mm cutting diameter with an overall length of 75 mm makes it a versatile choice for assembly work and precision tasks.
HSS (high-speed steel) offers increased hardness and resistance to temperatures of up to 600°C. As a result, the drill bit keeps its cutting edges sharp even during intensive drilling in structural steels and non-ferrous metals.
A pilot drill bit is used to create an accurate pilot hole before using larger drill bits or hole saws. This prevents the tool from slipping and ensures accurate positioning for the drilling operations that follow.
The 6 mm diameter is a standard size for drilling pilot holes for bi-metal hole saws and diamond core bits. The 75 mm length allows work in materials up to 60 mm thick while leaving a safe margin of drill bit length.
The geometry of the cutting edges produces a clean, burr-free hole and minimises swarf formation. The cutting angle is suited to drilling in a range of materials — from soft aluminium to stainless steel.

Recommended speeds: 1,500–2,000 rpm for structural steel, 2,500–3,500 rpm for aluminium and 2,000–3,000 rpm for wood. Using a coolant (emulsion or oil) when drilling steel extends drill bit life by 40–60%.
HSS drill bits can be sharpened repeatedly with a drill bit sharpener. The original point angle must be maintained (118° for general-purpose use). After working in metal, the drill bit should be cleaned of swarf and protected with oil.
The drill bit fits standard drill chucks with a 1–13 mm range. It can be used in corded drills, cordless drills and pillar drills. The cylindrical shank ensures a secure, non-slip hold.
