A workshop tool designed for compressing piston rings when fitting a piston into a cylinder. The compressor holds the rings in a compressed position, allowing the piston to be slid in without the risk of damaging them or having them pop out of the grooves. The 90–175 mm working range allows work on pistons in passenger car, van and machinery engines.
The compressor covers pistons from 90 to 175 mm in diameter, making it useful when servicing most petrol and diesel engines found in passenger cars, vans and machinery. One tool replaces several fixed-size compressors.
The body is made from spring steel sheet that compresses the circumference of the piston evenly. The material keeps its shape after repeated use and resists permanent deformation, which ensures consistent tool performance over a long service life.
The locking mechanism keeps the compressor clamped onto the piston without the need to hold it by hand. It is released with a single press of a button, which speeds up the job and reduces the risk of accidental loosening while sliding the piston into the cylinder.
The main function of the compressor is to prevent the rings from popping out of the grooves or cracking as the piston is pushed in. Compressing the piston's circumference reduces it to the cylinder bore size, removing the need to hold each ring in place by hand.

Before use, check the piston diameter in the engine's technical documentation or measure it with a vernier caliper. The value must fall within the 90–175 mm range. Position the compressor so that its lower edge sits level with the bottom ring groove, then tighten it until the outer surface of the compressor matches the cylinder bore.
