Pointed arch HSS rotary burr YT-61718 YATO

Pointed arch rotary burr made from HSS 4241 high-speed steel, intended for working steel and aluminium. A tool for deburring, chamfering, weld dressing and shaping holes, compatible with electric and pneumatic die grinders.

MaterialHSS 4241
Shank diameter6 mm
Max. speed30,000 rpm
Working length25 mm

Technical characteristics of the pointed arch rotary burr

HSS 4241 high-speed steel

A material containing tungsten, molybdenum and cobalt, providing HRC 62-65 hardness and resistance to temperatures up to 600°C. HSS steel retains cutting edge sharpness during intensive work, which translates into a longer tool life when machining structural steel and aluminium.

Pointed arch geometry

The pointed arch shape enables precise working of internal edges, angled chamfering and access to hard-to-reach places. The burr profile allows controlled material removal when deburring drilled holes and smoothing welds in corners.

Working speed 30,000 rpm

The maximum rotational speed sets the upper limit for safe operation of the tool. For steel, speeds of 15,000-20,000 rpm are recommended; for aluminium, 20,000-25,000 rpm. Exceeding the 30,000 rpm parameter can lead to damage to the burr or loss of control over the machining.

6 mm shank

A 6 mm shank diameter is the standard for die grinders and micro grinders. Before purchase, check the collet diameter of your grinder – most electric and pneumatic models accept 6 mm shanks, some require an adaptor.

Applications of the rotary burr

  • Deburring drilled holes in steel and aluminium structural components
  • Angled chamfering of edges to remove sharp edges
  • Weld dressing – smoothing weld beads, removing welding scale
  • Shaping hole geometry – enlarging, correcting shape, removing burrs
  • Removing scratches and unevenness from metal surfaces
  • Preparing edges for welding – forming grooves for weld seams
  • Working cut-outs and openings in steel and aluminium sheet
  • Cleaning grooves, threads and other mechanical details

Use and maintenance

Selecting machining parameters

For structural steel: speed 15,000-20,000 rpm, light pressure, feed 1-2 mm/s. For aluminium: speed 20,000-25,000 rpm, moderate pressure, feed 2-3 mm/s. Too high a speed causes overheating and loss of edge hardness; too low a speed leads to seizing and vibration.

Cooling during operation

During intensive steel work, breaks every 30-40 seconds of operation are recommended, or the use of aerosol coolant. Overheating the burr above 300°C causes tempering of the HSS steel and permanent loss of hardness. Aluminium requires cooling for work lasting longer than one minute.

Cleaning and storage

After finishing work, remove swarf with a brass brush, clean material residue off the burr with a tool cleaning spray, dry it and protect it with a thin layer of machine oil. Store in a dry place, in a plastic cover or box, avoiding contact with other tools.
