SK5 tool steel
SK5 high-carbon tool steel contains 0.75–0.88% carbon, which gives a hardness of 58–62 HRC after heat treatment. This carbon content provides the right balance between cutting edge hardness and resistance to cracking under the dynamic loads encountered during cutting.
Resistance to chipping
The structure of SK5 steel has a fine grain, which minimises the risk of localised edge chipping when cutting materials of varying hardness or when contaminants are encountered. The blade retains its cutting geometry for longer in service.
Abrasion resistance
The carbides in the structure of SK5 steel form a barrier against mechanical wear. In practice, this means the blade needs sharpening far less often than standard non-alloy steel blades, which keeps running costs down.
Compatibility with Tvardy cutters
The blade is designed to match the dimensions and mounting geometry of Tvardy cutters for 0-42 mm diameters. Before buying, check the model of your cutter – the blade fits the range with a ratchet mechanism and a maximum jaw opening of 42 mm.

How to check that the blade fits your cutter

Use and maintenance
Replacing the blade requires loosening the retaining screw in the cutter body. After removing the worn blade, clean the mounting surface of dirt and material residue. After fitting, make a test cut on a piece of scrap material to check alignment. The blade needs no further preparation – it is supplied with a factory-sharpened edge. During use, avoid cutting materials containing metal or hard contaminants that could damage the edge geometry.
Periodically clean the blade of material residue using a soft brush and solvent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the blade surface and speed up wear.
