An SDS-Plus drill bit designed for drilling holes in concrete, reinforced concrete and masonry. Fitted with a tungsten carbide tip for durability when working in building materials.
The SDS-Plus shank is a standard used on hammer drills with a power of up to 4 kJ. The system allows quick tool changes without additional spanners and locks the drill bit automatically in the chuck. Compatible with most hammer drills from brands such as Bosch, Makita, DeWalt and Hilti.
The tip is made from tungsten carbide (widia) with a hardness exceeding 80 HRA, which allows efficient drilling in concrete and rock. The tip geometry is designed for impact work and enables the material to be broken up during drilling.
A 16 mm diameter corresponds to typical installation applications: fitting M10-M12 expansion anchors and routing electrical cables or plumbing and drainage services. A hole of this diameter provides adequate fitting clearance for standard fixings.
An overall length of 450 mm with a typical working length of around 400 mm allows drilling through walls up to 35-38 cm thick. This parameter matters for work in load-bearing walls and for service penetrations through floor slabs.

Before buying, check that your drill has an SDS-Plus chuck. This can be verified in the tool's manual or by visually inspecting the chuck – SDS-Plus has distinctive grooves and a 10 mm shank diameter. Do not use the drill bit in tools with an SDS-Max chuck (a larger system for heavier work) or in standard jawed chucks.
For a 16 mm diameter, the recommended speed is 400-600 rpm when drilling in concrete. Excessive speed can overheat the tip and shorten its service life. When drilling in reinforced concrete, be prepared to encounter rebar – in this case it is worth having a metal drill bit of the appropriate diameter to hand.
After use, clean concrete dust off the drill bit, particularly around the SDS-Plus shank. Any dust left behind can make it harder to fit and remove the tool. The shank can be greased periodically with a dedicated SDS tool grease, which keeps the locking mechanism in the drill working smoothly.
