A drill bit for reinforced concrete and concrete with an SDS Plus shank, designed for use with rotary hammers. Fitted with a 4-cutter tungsten carbide tip and a deep flute for removing drilling debris.
Technical features of the SDS Plus 16 mm drill bit
Ground flute surface
Grinding the flute surface reduces friction during drilling, which in turn reduces wear on the cutting tip. This allows more holes to be drilled while maintaining the drill bit's nominal diameter – important when fitting wall plugs that require tight dimensional tolerances.
4-cutter tungsten carbide tip
Four cutting edges spread the cutting forces over a larger area, which increases the life of the tungsten carbide. The additional edges also make it possible to drill through reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete without changing tools. The tip is brazed in an automated process and withstands the temperatures generated during intensive use.
Deep flute with 4 dust-extraction channels
The flute design with additional channels in the working section speeds up the removal of concrete dust from the hole. Effective debris removal prevents the drill bit from clogging and reduces resistance while drilling, cutting the time needed to complete each hole.
High-carbon steel with centred geometry
The shank is made from resilient high-carbon steel and stays straight even under the lateral loads encountered when drilling into non-uniform materials. Precise centring eliminates radial run-out, producing a cylindrical hole that matches the intended diameter.

Tool compatibility
Standard SDS Plus shank
The drill bit is compatible with all rotary hammers fitted with an SDS Plus chuck (10 mm collar diameter). This system allows tools to be changed quickly without the need for keys – the drill bit is pushed into the chuck and locked automatically by the locking balls. Before fitting, clean any debris from the shank and apply a thin layer of grease intended for SDS chucks.
Checking diameter compatibility
A 16 mm diameter suits typical wall plugs in the 14-16 mm range. When choosing a drill bit for a plug, take into account the tolerances specified by the plug manufacturer – the hole should generally be 0-2 mm larger than the plug diameter. Check the anchor manufacturer's technical documentation before starting work.
Use and maintenance
Before drilling, check that the drill bit diameter matches the requirements of the fixing being installed. When drilling into reinforced concrete, use a metal detector to locate reinforcing bars – although the drill bit will cut through rebar, avoiding the bars extends the life of the cutting tip.
Keep the drill bit perpendicular to the surface and apply moderate pressure during use – the rotary hammer provides the hammer action, and excessive pressure will not speed up drilling. Withdraw the drill bit from the hole periodically to clear accumulated dust, especially for holes deeper than 100 mm.
After use, clean concrete dust from the drill bit with a wire brush or compressed air. The SDS Plus shank should be protected from corrosion with grease. Storing the tool in a dry place extends its service life.
