The sliding T-handle is a tool kit component used to transfer torque between a ratchet and a socket. Its T-shaped design enables two-handed operation, increasing the force applied to the fastener.
The 1/2 inch designation refers to the size of the square drive (12.7 mm). This is the most universal standard in workshop applications – compatible with sockets from 8 mm to 32 mm, used in automotive and industrial mechanics and in DIY work.
The T-shape means the handle sits at right angles to the axis of rotation. This allows two-handed operation, which improves control over torque and makes it possible to tighten fasteners requiring greater force without using a torque wrench.
The overall size of the tool affects access in confined spaces as well as the length of the lever arm. At 255 mm, it strikes a balance between reach and the ability to work in partially restricted assembly locations.
The sliding function allows the position of the handle to be changed along the axis of the tool. This increases flexibility in different spatial configurations where a standard handle might clash with structural components.

The handle works with all 1/2" sockets available on the market. Before buying sockets, check that their square drive size matches the drive of the handle. The 1/2" standard covers sockets from 8 mm to 32 mm and imperial sockets from 5/16" to 1 1/4".
The sliding mechanism requires periodic lubrication with lithium grease or penetrating oil to keep it moving freely and protect it against corrosion. Avoid overloading the tool with torque beyond its design limits – when tightening high-torque fasteners, use of a torque wrench is recommended.
After use, clean the tool of dirt and oil. Storing it in a dry place prevents corrosion of the working surfaces. If the tool is used in conditions exposed to moisture or road salt, additional protection of the surfaces with an anti-corrosion treatment is recommended.
T-handles differ from standard cranked handles through their two-handed operation and greater control over torque. Unlike ratchets, they have no ratchet mechanism, which removes the risk of it being damaged under high loads. They are particularly useful for initial tightening or loosening of tightly fastened joints.
