The spindle-mounted flap wheel is an abrasive tool designed for fitting in drills and die grinders. The abrasive cloth flaps arranged around a steel shank allow surface work in hard-to-reach places as well as sanding contours and edges.
P40 grit falls into the coarse category, which means a high capacity for rapid material removal. It is used for the initial preparation of surfaces and for removing rust, burrs, old paint coatings and thicker layers of material. It leaves visible sanding marks that require subsequent smoothing with a finer grit.
The abrasive cloth flaps mounted around the shank flex to follow the surface being worked. This design makes it possible to sand flat surfaces as well as curves, edges and hard-to-reach places. The flaps wear down gradually, exposing fresh layers of abrasive material.
A 6 mm shank diameter is standard for hand tools. The wheel works with keyless chucks and standard drill chucks in drills, drill drivers and die grinders. Before fitting, check the clamping range of the chuck on your tool.
A diameter of 60 mm and a height of 30 mm make this size suitable for working on medium-sized surfaces. It provides enough working surface while still allowing work in areas with limited access. A larger size means a longer working life before the wheel wears out.

Before fitting, make sure the tool is disconnected from the power supply. The shank is secured in the chuck of a drill or grinder by tightening the chuck in accordance with the tool's instructions. Use an appropriate speed when working – too high a speed can overheat the material and the wheel. Apply the wheel to the surface gradually, increasing pressure step by step.
Wear safety goggles, a dust mask and work gloves when sanding. Working with the wheel generates dust and fine particles of material. Work in ventilated rooms or use dust extraction equipment. Never exceed the maximum speed recommended by the tool manufacturer.
The wheel wears down gradually during use – the flaps abrade and become shorter. Replacement is necessary when the wheel can no longer sand effectively or when the flaps have worn down to the level of the shank. The degree of wear can be assessed visually by observing the length of the flaps and the quality of the finish obtained.
