A square metal file with a single-cut tooth pattern, designed for smoothing flat surfaces, enlarging holes and shaping edges in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Model YT-6224 features a three-component handle that ensures a secure grip during workshop tasks.
Four flat working faces allow internal right angles to be worked, square holes to be enlarged and slots to be smoothed. The shape provides access to areas that flat or round files cannot reach.
Single parallel rows of teeth cut at an angle of approximately 65-70° remove material efficiently while leaving a medium surface finish. Ideal for rapid levelling and initial shaping of metal before final finishing.
A versatile size that balances stroke reach against control precision. The length allows efficient work on larger surfaces while still permitting accurate work in confined spaces.

A single-cut pattern performs well on structural steel, aluminium, brass and cast iron. For soft metals (copper, aluminium), frequent cleaning with a wire brush is recommended to prevent the teeth from clogging. For hardened tool steels, files with a finer double-cut pattern will be more effective.
When using a file, work with a back-and-forth stroke, applying pressure on the forward stroke and avoiding pressure on the return stroke – this ensures even wear of the teeth. The optimum angle to the workpiece surface is 20-30°.
After finishing work, remove metal filings with a wire brush, moving it along the rows of teeth. Striking the file against hard surfaces to remove debris is not recommended, as this can damage the teeth. Storing it in a dry place, separately from other tools, prevents corrosion and blunting of the teeth.
