Technical features of TORX T8 bits

S2 alloy steel

S2 is a tool steel with a higher silicon content, known for its exceptional resistance to impact and plastic deformation. Compared with standard chrome vanadium (CrV) steel, S2 offers greater shear strength, which translates into a longer bit service life under intensive use in power tools.

58-60 HRC hardness

A hardness of 58-60 HRC (Rockwell C) provides the optimum balance between wear resistance and resistance to cracking. This value means the bit keeps its tip profile even under high torsional loads, minimising the risk of cam-out from the screw head and the resulting damage to the screw.

Nickel-plated surface finish

The nickel layer serves a dual purpose: it protects the steel against corrosion in damp conditions and reduces friction when driving and removing screws. Nickel plating also increases resistance to the oils and solvents used in workshops.

1/4" (6.3 mm) hex shank

The standard 1/4-inch hex shank ensures compatibility with most cordless screwdrivers, drill drivers and the magnetic bit holders and extensions available on the market. The hex geometry prevents the bit from rotating in the holder during use.

Applications for TORX T8 bits

TORX T8 bits are widely used in jobs that demand precision and access to small fasteners. The TORX profile features a six-point star that spreads torque over a larger area, reducing the risk of damaging the screw head.

  • Consumer electronics repair: laptops, smartphones, tablets, games consoles
  • Repair and assembly of domestic appliances: washing machines, dishwashers, coffee machines
  • Work on automotive components: dashboard parts, housings, multimedia systems
  • Installation and removal of electrical accessories: sockets, switches, back boxes
  • Assembling furniture and interior fittings with TORX fasteners
  • Bicycle workshop work on disc brakes and derailleurs
  • Servicing of electronic tools and power tools
  • Assembly of precision devices in the electronics industry

Checking compatibility

Before buying, check the size of the screw head. TORX T8 screws have an outer star diameter of around 2.31 mm. Using the wrong bit size can damage both the tool and the fastener. If in doubt, use a set of test bits or check the technical documentation for the device.

Use and maintenance

To get the longest possible service life from TORX T8 bits, follow a few simple rules. Before starting work, check the condition of the tip – even minor damage can lead to cam-out from the screw head. When driving a screw, keep the bit perpendicular to the screw surface and apply even pressure.

After finishing work, clean the bits of dust, swarf and dirt. In a workshop environment where oils and greases are present, wash the bits periodically with solvent and dry them with compressed air. Storing them in a dry place, in a dedicated organiser or magnetic holder, protects them against corrosion and mechanical damage.

Torque

When working with power tools, pay attention to the clutch or torque settings. Excessive torque can cause premature bit wear or damage the thread. For screws in electronic devices, use low torque settings and tighten gradually.
