A set of 15 stainless steel thread repair inserts designed for restoring damaged M10x1.5 metric threads. A solution that brings stripped or worn threaded holes back into service without replacing the entire component.
The corrosion-resistant material keeps the inserts durable even in damp conditions and in contact with chemicals. Stainless steel also offers greater strength than the materials typically used for original threads in aluminium or cast iron.
The M10x1.5 designation denotes a metric thread with a nominal diameter of 10 mm and a pitch of 1.5 mm. The 1.5 mm pitch is the distance between adjacent thread turns - a key parameter for bolt compatibility. Before buying, check the dimensions of the damaged thread with a test bolt or a thread gauge.
The number of inserts in the set allows you to carry out multiple repairs or make several trial fittings on difficult installations. A stock of inserts is particularly important in a workshop where thread damage occurs regularly.

Fitting thread repair inserts requires a specialist tool kit: a drill bit to enlarge the damaged hole, a tap of the correct size (larger than M10x1.5) and a fitting tool for screwing in the insert. YATO offers dedicated repair kits containing all the necessary components.
The repair procedure begins with drilling out the damaged thread using a drill bit sized to suit the thread repair insert. A new, larger thread is then cut in the enlarged hole with a tap. The thread repair insert is screwed into the prepared hole using a special fitting tool. Once the correct depth is reached, the installation tang is snapped off and the insert forms a new M10x1.5 internal thread.
After fitting the insert, check the quality of the repaired thread by screwing in an M10x1.5 test bolt. The bolt should run in smoothly without excessive resistance. A correctly fitted thread repair insert provides a joint strength that often exceeds the parameters of the original thread.
Thread repair inserts are the answer when an internal thread has been damaged by over-tightening, repeated assembly and disassembly, corrosion or the use of incorrect bolts. They are particularly useful for threads cut in soft materials such as aluminium, brass or plastics, where the original joint strength is limited.
In aluminium components, widely used in engine, gearbox and aerospace assemblies, thread repair inserts not only repair the damage but also reinforce the joint. A steel insert in an aluminium housing offers far greater resistance to pull-out and shear than the original aluminium thread.
