A specialist tool kit for locking and synchronising the timing system on Peugeot and Citroen petrol engines. Designed for precise timing belt replacement on the EBO (ZMZ) and EB2 (HMZ) units fitted to the 208 and C3 models.
The kit has been designed specifically around the geometry of the EBO (ZMZ) and EB2 (HMZ) engines in 1.0 and 1.2 litre displacements. Every locking element is dimensioned to match factory tolerances, eliminating play and ensuring accurate valve timing during belt replacement.
The locking tools hold the crankshaft and camshafts in the position corresponding to top dead centre on cylinder one. This prevents accidental rotation of components while the belt is removed, which could lead to valve-to-piston contact in interference engines.
The kit suits the Peugeot 208 1.0/1.2 VTI built from 2008 and the Citroen C3 1.0/1.2 VTI from the 2012 model year onwards. Before purchase, verify the engine code in the vehicle documentation or on the identification plate under the bonnet – the relevant codes are EBO (ZMZ) or EB2 (HMZ).
The materials used to make the locking tools withstand the repeated fitting and removal typical of a workshop environment. Working surfaces are produced with wear resistance in mind, allowing long-term use without any loss of fit accuracy.

Before starting work, confirm the engine code in the vehicle's technical documentation. Although the 208 and C3 models match, different power units requiring different tool kits may have been fitted in the same production years. Checking for the EBO (ZMZ) or EB2 (HMZ) code eliminates the risk of using the wrong equipment.
The locking tools should only be fitted after the shafts have been set by hand to the position corresponding to TDC on cylinder one, in line with the marks on the pulleys. Forcing the locking tools into place when the timing is incorrect can damage both the tools and engine components. Once fitted, check that all locking tools are fully seated with no play.
After use, clean the locking tools of oil contamination and protect them against corrosion with a thin film of oil. Storing them in the original packaging or a dedicated tool case protects against mechanical damage and makes it easier to check that the kit is complete before the next use.
