Features of the YATO YT-1923 tin snips

Induction-hardened CrMo steel jaws

Chrome-molybdenum steel provides mechanical strength and wear resistance. Induction hardening to 60-62 HRC ensures long-lasting sharpness of the cutting edges and minimises the risk of the jaws chipping when cutting harder materials.

Short, straight cutting jaws approx. 1"

The substantial jaws, approximately 1 inch (25.4 mm) long, allow precise control of the cut in hard-to-reach places. The short design increases cutting force with less pressure on the handles, which means less fatigue during intensive work.

Forged construction

The forging process produces a uniform material structure and eliminates internal stresses. Compared with cast or welded snips, forged construction offers greater resistance to the dynamic loads encountered during cutting.

Ergonomic handles with grips

The plastic grips improve working comfort by absorbing vibration and preventing the hands from slipping. The ergonomic handle design reduces strain on the wrists during repeated cutting.

HRC hardness and what it means

The HRC (Rockwell C) scale measures the hardness of materials. A value of 60-62 HRC indicates very hard steel, comparable to the hardness of saw blades or drill bits. This hardness keeps the cutting edges sharp for a long time, but it requires a precise hardening process to prevent the material from becoming brittle.

Applications of the tin snips

  • Cutting cold-rolled steel sheet up to 1.62 mm thick
  • Cutting stainless steel sheet up to 1.21 mm thick
  • Sheet metal work in automotive workshops
  • Ventilation and air conditioning installations
  • Cutting and forming roofing components
  • Cutting thin-walled profiles and sections
  • Finishing work during steel structure assembly
  • Small-batch production of sheet metal components

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check the condition of the cutting jaws - they should be free from dents and chipping. When cutting, keep the snips perpendicular to the sheet surface and avoid twisting the jaws, as this can damage them.

The maximum cutting thicknesses (1.62 mm for mild steel and 1.21 mm for stainless steel) must not be exceeded, as this can cause excessive wear to the cutting edges or permanently distort the jaws. Stainless steel sheet requires greater cutting force because of its higher material strength.

Maintaining the cutting jaws

After finishing work, clean the jaws of any material residue and protect them with a thin film of oil to prevent corrosion. Regular lubrication of the pivot keeps operation smooth and extends the life of the tool. Do not use the snips to cut materials harder than those intended - this can chip the hardened edges.
