Twist drill bit made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, designed for drilling holes in metals. The DIN338 standard defines the geometry and dimensions of the drill bit, ensuring universal use when machining steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
The base material provides hardness and resistance to the high temperatures generated during drilling. HSS retains its cutting properties even under intensive use, which gives a longer tool life.
The gold TiN coating reduces the coefficient of friction by 30-40% compared with unpolished HSS. It limits swarf sticking to the cutting edge, which improves hole quality and reduces cutting edge wear. It also increases surface hardness to approximately 2400 HV.
The standardised design with a 118° point angle and a 25-35° helix ensures effective swarf evacuation. The cylindrical shank allows mounting in standard power drill and pillar drill chucks.
A size suitable for drilling holes for M14 bolts, expansion anchors and mounting fittings. It requires a drill with a minimum power of 800 W, or a pillar drill for stable operation.

For structural steel: rotational speed 400-600 rpm, feed 0.15-0.25 mm/rev. For aluminium: 1200-1800 rpm. Use emulsion or cutting oil for cooling when drilling steel – this extends drill bit life and improves hole quality.
Before drilling, spot the centre point with a centre drill or centre-punch the start point. This prevents the drill bit from slipping at the start of the operation. Make sure the drill bit is mounted perpendicular to the workpiece surface.
After use, clean swarf and material residue from the drill bit. Avoid sharpening the drill bit on ordinary sharpening stones – this will damage the titanium coating. If it becomes blunt, have it sharpened professionally, maintaining the DIN338 angles and geometry.
