Tongue and Groove Router Cutters 2pc - 8mm Shank G01216 GEKO

A set of two router cutters for cutting tongue and groove joints in wood. Tungsten carbide cutting edges ensure precise cutting of the two matching joint components at 11 x 11 mm.

Shank diameter8 mm
Cutter diameter38 mm
Tongue and groove size11 x 11 mm
Cutting edge materialTungsten carbide

Set features

Matching pair of cutters

The set comprises two cutters: one for cutting the groove, the other for cutting the tongue. The two work together to produce a precise 11 x 11 mm joint in wood.

Tungsten carbide cutting edges

Tungsten carbide is a composite material with a hardness approaching that of diamond. It gives long cutter life, minimises blunting during use and produces clean cut edges without tearing the wood.

Universal 8 mm shank

An 8 mm shank diameter is standard on most plunge routers and in drill chucks. Check the collet size of your router before purchase.

38 mm cutting diameter

The 38 mm cutter diameter determines the maximum groove depth and tongue height. This dimension affects the mechanical strength of the joint – a larger contact area means a stronger joint.

What is a tongue and groove joint?

A tongue and groove joint is a type of timber joint in which a groove is cut in one component and a matching protruding tongue, of identical profile, in the other. Once glued, the components form a durable edge joint, increasing the gluing surface and preventing the boards from shifting relative to one another.

Use and maintenance

Preparation before use

Before fitting the cutters in the router collet, check that the shank is clean and free from contamination. Fit the cutter in accordance with the router instructions, making sure it is seated securely. Set the speed in line with the router manufacturer's recommendations for 38 mm cutters – typically 16,000-22,000 rpm for softwood and 12,000-18,000 rpm for hardwood.

Routing technique

First cut the groove in one component, then the tongue in the other. Move the router at a steady rate, without sudden movements. Cut in several passes, increasing the depth gradually – a single pass should not remove more than 3-5 mm of material. Always feed the tool against the direction of cutter rotation.

Tool maintenance

After use, clean the cutting edges of resin and wood dust with a brush or compressed air. Do not use solvents that may damage the carbide binder. Store the cutters in their original packaging or in dedicated holders, protecting the cutting edges from impact. Check the condition of the cutting edges regularly – chips or excessive blunting require sharpening by a specialist service.
