HSS 1.00 mm Metal Drill Bit with TiN Coating – TVARDY T02010

Precision drill bit made from HSS 4341 high-speed steel with a titanium nitride coating, designed for drilling holes in metal and hard-to-machine materials. 1.00 mm diameter, cylindrical shank to DIN 338.

Diameter1.00 mm
MaterialHSS 4341
CoatingTiN
Point angle135°

Technical features

TiN coating (titanium nitride)

The gold and black ceramic layer increases the surface hardness of the drill bit and reduces friction during drilling. The result: longer tool life, the ability to work at higher cutting speeds and better heat dissipation from the cutting zone.

HSS 4341 steel

A high-speed steel with cobalt content, providing increased hardness and resistance to high temperatures. This material retains its cutting properties even under intensive use, which makes the drill bit suitable for hard-to-machine materials.

135° 2-stage point

The special 135° point grind removes the need to pre-punch a starting point. The drill bit centres itself on the material surface, which improves accuracy and reduces the risk of the tool slipping at the start of the job.

Chip-evacuating flutes

Helical flutes produced by precision grinding ensure efficient removal of chips upwards out of the hole. Important when drilling deep holes – it prevents the drill bit from jamming and the material from overheating.

Applications

  • Drilling precision holes in structural and tool steels
  • Machining alloy and stainless steels
  • Drilling in grey and nodular cast iron
  • Working with aluminium and its alloys
  • Drilling copper, brass and bronze
  • Machining hard-to-machine materials that require a durable tool
  • Precision work in model making and jewellery making
  • Drilling in workshop and production environments

Checking compatibility with your drill

A cylindrical shank 1.00 mm in diameter requires a precision chuck (e.g. a drill chuck with a range starting at 0.5 mm) or a precision mini drill. Standard drill chucks do not always grip drill bits of such small diameters accurately enough. Before buying, check the minimum chuck capacity of your drill.

Use and maintenance

Before you start drilling, mark the point with a centre punch – this improves accuracy and helps the drill bit to centre itself. During drilling, the use of cutting fluid is recommended, particularly when drilling stainless steels and hard-to-machine materials.

The rotational speed should be matched to the material being machined. For structural steel at a diameter of 1.00 mm, the recommended speed is approximately 3000-4000 rpm. Too high a speed can lead to overheating and loss of the cutting edge, too low a speed to the drill bit seizing.

After finishing the job, clean the drill bit of chips and material residue, then protect it from moisture. Storing it in the original plastic container protects the cutting edge from mechanical damage and makes it easier to keep your tools organised in the workshop.

Re-sharpening the point

If the drill bit becomes blunt, it can be re-sharpened on a specialist drill bit sharpener. The original 135° angle and the symmetry of both cutting edges must be maintained. The TiN coating may be partly removed during sharpening, which will slightly reduce the tool life, but it will not prevent further use.
