Technical features of the universal drill bit

YG6X tungsten carbide tip

The YG6X tungsten carbide tip, with a hardness of 89-91 HRC, stays sharp even when drilling hard materials such as concrete or ceramic. A Rockwell hardness above 89 HRC means abrasion resistance comparable to industrial diamond.

Body hardened to 42-45 HRC

The drill body is hardened to 42-45 HRC, combining flexibility with torsional strength. This hardness prevents cracking under the lateral loads encountered when drilling into concrete or brick.

HEX 1/4" (6.3 mm) shank

The hexagonal HEX 1/4" shank is the standard fit for cordless drills and impact drivers. It provides a stable, non-slip hold, which matters under the higher loads of impact drilling.

Flute geometry for swarf clearance

The specially designed flute effectively clears swarf and dust from the hole as you drill. This prevents the bit from clogging and overheating, extending tool life and improving the quality of the holes produced.

Applications of the 4mm universal drill bit

  • Drilling assembly holes in metal profiles and sheet metal up to 3 mm thick
  • Making holes in concrete and brick for Ø4-6 mm wall plugs
  • Drilling into solid wood and engineered wood panels when assembling furniture
  • Creating holes in ceramic and porcelain tiles during finishing work
  • Drilling into aluminium and its alloys during installation work
  • Making holes in plastics, PVC and polycarbonate
  • Precision work in the workshop when repairing electronic equipment and domestic appliances
  • Pilot drilling for self-tapping screws in various materials

Tool compatibility

The 1/4" hex shank fits all cordless drills, impact drivers and impact wrenches fitted with a standard hexagonal chuck. If you plan to work in concrete, check that your tool has a hammer drilling function - it will make drilling in this material more efficient.

Use and maintenance

Before you start drilling into concrete or brick, mark the hole position and begin drilling at low speed, increasing it gradually. If you are using a drill with a hammer function, switching it on significantly speeds up drilling in building materials.

When drilling into metal, it is advisable to use a small amount of machine oil or cutting fluid. This prevents the drill bit from overheating and improves the quality of the hole. Wood and plastics can be drilled dry.

After use, clean the drill bit of swarf and dust, then protect it from moisture. Storing it in a dry place, ideally in a dedicated container or bit case, protects the tip from mechanical damage and corrosion.

Checking the condition

Regularly checking the tip for chipping and wear allows problems to be spotted early. A drill bit that needs replacing is characterised by longer drilling times, increased resistance and poorer-quality holes. Attempts to recondition a tungsten carbide tip at home are ineffective.
