Universal Drill Bit 7mm HEX YT-44784 YATO

A universal drill bit with a 1/4" hex shank, designed for drilling into metal, concrete, wood, ceramic and plastics. The YG6X tungsten carbide tip ensures durability when working with hard materials.

Drill bit diameter7 mm
Shank typeHEX 1/4" (6.3 mm)
Tip hardness89–91 HRC
Tip materialYG6X tungsten carbide

Universal drill bit features

YG6X tungsten carbide tip

A tip hardness of 89–91 HRC means exceptionally high wear resistance and the ability to drill into hard materials such as metal and concrete. YG6X tungsten carbide stays sharp far longer than standard HSS steels.

1/4" hex shank

The 6.3 mm hex shank provides a secure fit in cordless drill drivers and impact drivers. It stops the bit from slipping in the chuck during use, which improves both safety and drilling precision.

Body hardness of 42–45 HRC

The drill bit body has a hardness of 42–45 HRC, which provides flexibility and resistance to cracking during hammer drilling. This hardness value is a compromise between strength and resistance to breakage.

Flute geometry for chip clearance

The special design of the helical flutes speeds up the removal of debris from the hole, which prevents the drill bit from overheating and reduces the risk of jamming. Effective chip clearance extends the life of the tool.

Applications for the universal drill bit

  • Drilling fixing holes in concrete walls for wall plugs
  • Drilling holes in steel and aluminium sections
  • Drilling into ceramic and porcelain tiles when fitting bathroom fixtures
  • Preparing pilot holes in wood for screws and bolts
  • Drilling into plastics during assembly work
  • Installation work requiring drilling into a range of materials
  • Fast drilling in the workshop without having to change tools
  • Drilling into mixed structures (wood-metal, concrete-brick)

Tool compatibility

The drill bit fits all cordless drill drivers and impact drivers with a quick-release chuck that accepts 1/4" hex bits. Before starting work, check that the tool's chuck is designed to hold hex shank bits. The drill bit can be used with impact drivers, but lower speeds are recommended when drilling into concrete.

Use and maintenance

When drilling into metal, the use of cutting fluid is recommended, as it extends the life of the tip and improves drilling quality. When drilling into concrete, use the hammer mode on your drill driver if available. After each use, clean the drill bit of chips and dust, then spray it with an anti-corrosion agent.

Storing the drill bit in a dry place protects it from corrosion. Avoiding excessive pressure while drilling prevents damage to the tungsten carbide tip, which despite its high hardness can crack under excessive lateral loads.

The HRC hardness scale

The HRC (Rockwell C) scale measures the hardness of materials. A value of 89–91 HRC for the tip indicates hardness approaching that of diamond, which allows drilling into the hardest building materials. A body hardness of 42–45 HRC is flexible enough to absorb vibration and prevent cracking during hammer drilling.
