A universal joint is a tool accessory that transmits torque at an angle. Model YT-3850 with a 3/8-inch drive works with ratchets and sockets of this size, providing access to fasteners in hard-to-reach places.
The 3/8" (9.5 mm) standard is the most common size in workshop tool sets. The joint works with ratchets, torque wrenches and extension bars of this size. It is suitable for work requiring medium torque – from 20 to 150 Nm.
The CRV 50BV30 alloy contains chromium and vanadium, which increases hardness and wear resistance. This material retains its mechanical properties under the dynamic loads typical of work with impact tools. The 50BV30 designation refers to the chemical composition and the hardening process.
The matt surface treatment prevents reflections when working at a lit workstation. This type of finish lasts longer than chrome plating and does not flake off under intensive use. The matt surface makes the tool easier to identify in a set.
The universal joint mechanism transmits torque at angles of up to 90 degrees relative to the ratchet axis. The design consists of two yokes connected by a cross piece, which allows the working angle to be changed smoothly without interrupting rotation.

Before buying, make sure that your existing tools have a 3/8" square drive. This size can be checked with a gauge or by comparing it with the markings on the ratchet. The 3/8" standard does not work with 1/4" (6.3 mm) or 1/2" (12.5 mm) drives without the appropriate adaptors.
A universal joint reduces the rigidity of the connection between the ratchet and the socket, so excessive torque should be avoided. For work requiring high force, the joint should be set at a smaller angle. Safety glasses and work gloves must be worn during use.
The universal joint requires periodic greasing of the cross-piece bearings with an EP (extreme pressure) grease. After working in dusty or damp conditions, the tool should be cleaned and protected against corrosion. The joint mechanism should turn smoothly without play or binding.
