VDE-certified insulated screwdriver designed for work on live electrical installations. 5.5 mm flat tip, 125 mm blade length, S2 tool steel hardened to HRC 56-60.
The insulating coating complies with EN 60900, which means dielectric strength is verified at 10,000 V for 5 seconds. In practice, the tool provides protection when working on installations up to 1000 V alternating current or 1500 V direct current. The insulation covers the blade right up to the tip, leaving only the minimum working area exposed.
The blade is made from S2 chrome-molybdenum-vanadium steel hardened to 56-60 on the Rockwell scale. This provides resistance to twisting, bending and tip wear. The material is used in impact and precision tools because it combines hardness with resistance to brittle fracture.
The handle is made from materials of different hardness – a harder inner layer gives the structure rigidity, while a softer outer layer improves grip. Small ridges and grooves on the surface stop the tool slipping out of your hand, which matters when working in insulating gloves.
The 5.5 mm tip width matches slotted screws from M4 to M5. The 125 mm blade length allows access to screws in recesses and hard-to-reach places typical of distribution boards and installation boxes. Precise grinding of the tip minimises the risk of damaging the screw slot.

The VDE certificate confirms that the tool has passed tests in accordance with the EN 60900 standard. During testing, the insulation is subjected to a test voltage of 10 kV for 5 seconds – ten times higher than the working voltage. Resistance to puncture, material ageing and mechanical damage is also checked. Only tools that meet these requirements receive the VDE mark and may be used for live working.
Check the condition of the insulation before every use – any cracks, scratches or discolouration disqualify the tool from live working. An insulated screwdriver must not be modified, ground or repaired. Storing it in a dry place, away from heat sources and chemicals, extends the life of the insulating coating.
Clean the insulation with a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild detergent. Do not use organic solvents, which can damage the plastic. Once you have finished working, wipe the screwdriver dry.
The 5.5 mm flat tip suits screws with a slot width of 5.3-5.7 mm. A tip that is too narrow can damage the slot, while one that is too wide may slip when tightening. M4-M5 screws with a slot matching a 5.5 mm tip are typical for electrical installations. For the smaller screws used in electronics, a 3.5 mm or 4 mm screwdriver is recommended.
