A stainless steel notched trowel designed for applying and spreading tile adhesive, render and levelling compounds. The 8 x 8 mm notches ensure a controlled thickness of the applied material.
The blade is made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The material does not react with the moisture present in adhesives and render, which prevents rust from forming and ensures long service life of the tool without any deterioration in the quality of the working surface.
The notch size determines the thickness of the applied material. 8 x 8 mm notches are used for fixing medium-sized ceramic tiles and for applying textured render. Larger notches mean a thicker bed of adhesive or render once spread.
The 580 mm length allows larger areas to be covered efficiently while maintaining control of the tool. The 128 mm width allows one-handed use on smaller surfaces or two-handed use when materials are applied more intensively over larger areas.
The traditional wooden handle provides a natural grip and wicks moisture away from the hand during use. The wood absorbs the vibrations generated when spreading materials, which reduces hand fatigue during longer working sessions.

The notch size of the trowel directly affects the thickness of the applied material. 8 x 8 mm notches are a versatile choice for most tiling and plastering work in residential construction.
The notches form ridges in the material as it is applied. Once the tile is pressed down or the surface is levelled, the ridges flatten out to form a uniform bed of controlled thickness. 8 x 8 mm notches leave an adhesive bed around 4-5 mm thick once the tile is pressed into place.
By way of comparison: 6 x 6 mm notches are used for smaller tiles (up to 20x20 cm), while 10 x 10 mm or larger are used for large-format tiles (above 50x50 cm) and for uneven substrates requiring a thicker levelling bed.
Before starting work, check the condition of the trowel notches. Damaged or bent notches will not spread the material evenly. After each use, clean the trowel of any adhesive or render residue before it sets.
Cement-based materials are removed mechanically after they have partially set, or by soaking in water. Dispersion adhesives are washed off with water immediately after finishing work. Hardened material residue may require the use of a scraper or wire brush, which can damage the surface of the blade.
Stainless steel does not require any special protection against corrosion, but prolonged storage in a damp environment with cement-based residue can lead to discolouration of the surface. Store the trowel in a dry place, ideally hanging or lying flat, to avoid deforming the blade.
