Technical features of the sanding block
P120 grit – for finishing
A P120 grit (125 μm) corresponds to medium-fine sanding. It is used to smooth surfaces after working with coarser grades and to prepare the substrate for paint finishes. It removes fine scratches and unevenness without removing too much material.
Four-sided trapezoidal shape
The trapezoidal geometry provides access to corners, grooves and profiles. The four working edges allow the block to be used repeatedly – once one edge is worn, work can continue with the remaining ones. This makes it more economical to use.
Aluminium oxide abrasive grain
Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. This material provides consistent abrasive performance when working with a range of materials, from wood to metal. Its structure resists crumbling, which extends the life of the tool.

How do I choose the right grit?
P120 grit falls within the medium range of grit sizes. It is used after initial sanding with P60–P80 grades and before finishing with P180–P240 grades. The higher the grit number, the finer the grain and the smoother the finished surface. With hardwood, P120 can be used as a finishing grit; with softwood, it is advisable to finish with finer grades.
Use and maintenance
When using the sanding block, apply even strokes along the grain of the wood, or in a single direction on other materials. Excessive pressure does not speed up the work and shortens the life of the tool. The trapezoidal shape means attention must be paid to the angle of application – the sharp edge allows precise work in grooves, while the wider surfaces are used for sanding flat areas.
After use, clean the block of dust with a brush or compressed air. Storing it in a dry place prevents moisture, which can weaken the bond holding the abrasive grain. Worn edges can be identified by a noticeably smoothed surface – at that point, turn the block to a fresh edge.
Safety
Hand sanding produces dust that can be harmful if inhaled. It is advisable to work in a ventilated room or wear respiratory protection. When working on metals and lacquers, dust extraction is particularly important, as the dust may contain toxic substances. Safety glasses protect the eyes from chips and dust.
