Features of the needle files
Five different working profiles
The set contains files with flat, half-round, round, triangular and knife profiles. Each profile is suited to a different type of work: flat for levelling surfaces, round for enlarging holes, triangular for sharp corners, knife for grooves and half-round for curves.
Handle-less design

Comparison of file profiles
Flat profile
Used for levelling flat surfaces, filing rectangular grooves and working edges. Two flat working faces allow work in narrow slots.
Half-round profile
One flat side, one rounded side. Used for working arcs and curves and for places where the shape of the tool needs to follow the workpiece.
Round profile
Intended for enlarging round holes, shaping the inside of rings and working concave surfaces. The entire surface of the tool is a working surface.
Triangular profile
Provides access to sharp corners, filing V-shaped grooves and working the inside of polygonal holes. Three working edges increase the functionality of the tool.
Knife profile
Features a thin, blade-like cross-section. Used for filing narrow grooves and slots and for places that require a thin tool to reach into them.
Use and maintenance
Needle files require the correct technique. Pressure should be applied on the forward stroke, while on the return stroke the tool should be lifted slightly off the material. This prevents the cut from dulling prematurely. The files should be protected from moisture and stored in a dry place, separately from other tools, to avoid damaging the working surface.
When working with soft metals such as aluminium or copper, it is advisable to clean the cut periodically with a wire brush. This removes material clogging, which can reduce filing efficiency. When working on steel, use less pressure and make shorter strokes, which extends the life of the tool.
Practical tip
Before starting work, it is worth protecting the metal shank of the needle file by wrapping the end with insulating tape or fitting a makeshift handle. This makes the tool more comfortable to use and reduces the risk of the hand slipping during intensive work.
