VOREL 38403 Quick-Release Bar Clamp 250 mm

The VOREL 38403 quick-release bar clamp is a versatile woodworking tool that combines clamping and spreading in a single unit. A jaw capacity of 250 mm allows components up to 25 cm wide to be clamped, and the quick-release mechanism enables one-handed operation.

Technical features of the bar clamp

Quick-release mechanism

The quick-release system secures a workpiece instantly without the need to turn a clamping screw. Release is by pressing the trigger lever, so you can work one-handed while positioning components with the other.

Two-way use

The clamp can be used both to clamp components together and to spread them apart. With the jaws reversed, the tool works as a spreader – useful when fitting door frames or bracing a structure from the inside while glue sets.

Parallel jaw guidance

The guidance mechanism keeps the jaws parallel to one another during clamping, which ensures the clamping force is distributed evenly across the entire surface of the material. This eliminates the risk of the parts being joined skewing or becoming damaged.

Workpiece protection

The jaws are fitted with soft pads that protect the surface of the clamped material from scratches and dents. This is particularly important when working with solid or veneered wood, or with lacquered furniture components.

Applications of the quick-release bar clamp

  • Gluing wooden components up to 250 mm wide – worktops, boards, panels
  • Furniture assembly – holding dowel and screw joints steady during assembly
  • Securing components during machining – sawing, sanding, routing
  • Fitting door frames – spreading the frame while it is seated in the opening
  • Temporarily joining structural components while taking measurements
  • Pressing veneer and edging onto flat surfaces
  • Stabilising picture frames and frame structures during gluing
  • Holding mouldings and profiles steady during mitre cutting

How does the spreading function work?

With the jaws reversed, the clamp acts as a spreader. The spreading position is used mainly when fitting door frames – the tool is placed inside the frame and expanded, pressing the components outwards from within. It is also useful for holding box constructions steady while the glue dries.

Use and maintenance

Before first use, check that the jaw-sliding mechanism moves freely. The quick-release mechanism needs to be cleaned periodically to remove sawdust and debris that can hamper smooth operation. The guide rails should be lubricated from time to time with machine oil or silicone grease.

When working with the clamp, make sure the clamping force is distributed evenly. Overtightening can deform soft materials or damage dowel joints. When gluing wooden components, it is advisable to use at least two clamps spaced evenly along the joint line.

Check the soft jaw pads regularly for damage. Hardened or cracked pads can scratch the material and need to be replaced. Store the clamp in a dry place, protected from moisture, which can cause the metal parts to corrode.

Checking jaw parallelism

To check that the guidance mechanism is working correctly, clamp a rectangular component of known geometry. The jaws should press evenly on both sides with no visible tilt. Jaws that are not parallel may indicate worn guide rails or a damaged mechanism.
