The VOREL 51180 combination spanner is a tool that combines the functions of an open-ended spanner and a ring spanner in a single body. The 18 mm size matches the nuts and bolt heads that both the open end and the ring end are designed to work with.
The spanner combines an open end (jaw) and a ring end. The open end allows work in confined spaces where there is no access from above. The ring end grips the nut fully, which reduces the risk of damaging the corners and allows a higher torque to be applied.
Carbon steel resists deformation under mechanical load. Its carbon content affects the hardness of the tool, which translates into wear resistance during repeated use. This material is the standard in combination spanner production.
The ring end is offset by 15° from the axis of the handle, which allows work in places where square-on access is difficult. After each turn the spanner can be flipped over, increasing the angle of rotation without having to remove the tool from the fastener.
The 18 mm dimension refers to the jaw width of the open end and the internal diameter of the ring. The spanner fits M12 nuts and bolt heads, which are standard in hydraulic installations, steel structures and automotive mechanics.

A combination spanner has no torque-control mechanism. Apply a force appropriate to the diameter of the fastener and the material of the parts being joined. Over-tightening can damage the thread or snap the bolt. For applications requiring a precise torque, a torque wrench should be used.
Before starting work, check that the spanner size matches the dimensions of the nut or bolt head. Play between the jaws of the spanner and the flats of the fastener rounds off the corners and prevents further work. M12 nuts require an 18 mm spanner in accordance with ISO 272.
After use, clean the spanner of dirt, oil and material residues. The working surfaces can be protected with a thin film of protective oil, particularly when stored in high-humidity conditions. Regular inspection of the jaws and ring allows early detection of signs of mechanical wear.
