A threading die holder designed for cutting external threads by hand with M15-M16 metric dies. The five-screw mechanism keeps the die securely in place when working with a range of materials.
The five-screw clamping system spreads the clamping force evenly around the whole circumference of the die. This removes the risk of the tool shifting while a thread is being cut, which translates into accuracy of finish.
The holder works with M15 and M16 metric dies. The M15 marking corresponds to a thread with an external diameter of 15 mm; M16 is 16 mm. Checking compatibility means verifying the outer diameter of the die.
A holder diameter of 45 mm provides an ergonomic grip when cutting medium-sized threads. The 16 mm mounting hole determines the maximum outer diameter of die that can be fitted in the holder.
The construction of the holder allows threads to be cut by hand in workshop and fitting environments. Useful for mechanical repairs, assembling steel structures and refurbishment work that requires an external thread to be cut.

Before starting work, insert the die into the holder and tighten all five clamping screws evenly. Tightening them unevenly can cause the die to shift while a thread is being cut. To check that the die is held securely, try turning it in the holder without any load applied.
When cutting a thread, turn the holder through complete revolutions, backing it off half a turn at intervals to break the swarf. Apply cutting oil to the thread regularly. Excessive pressure can break the die or damage the thread being cut.
After finishing work, loosen the clamping screws to avoid permanently deforming the mounting seat. Clean metal swarf off the holder and protect it with a thin film of anti-corrosion oil. The threads of the clamping screws need occasional lubrication to ensure the die is clamped evenly.
