A universal W1 galvanised steel hose clip for joining hoses and lines in the 70-90 mm diameter range. The standard choice for non-corrosive applications in hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systems.
The zinc coating provides basic corrosion protection in dry and non-aggressive environments. The W1 material designation means low-carbon steel with an electroplated zinc layer, suitable for standard workshop and industrial applications with no exposure to moisture.
The adjustable diameter range allows the clip to be matched to hoses with different wall thicknesses. The worm drive mechanism allows precise tightening and even distribution of clamping force around the circumference of the hose, which prevents leaks and damage.
A width of 9 mm is the standard for medium loads – it provides sufficient contact area without making the hose excessively stiff. The 0.6 mm thickness ensures mechanical strength while retaining flexibility during fitting.
The tensioning screw has a hex head and slots for screwdrivers (Phillips and flat), so the clip can be fitted with commonly available tools. Tightening with a spanner is recommended – it gives control over torque and avoids damaging the head.

Measure the outside diameter of the hose once it is fitted over the spigot. Choose a clip whose lower range limit is equal to or slightly smaller than the measured value. Example: for a Ø 75 mm hose on a spigot, a 70-90 mm clip will provide the correct clamping force. A clip that is too loose will not seal the joint; one that is too tight may damage the hose material.
Before fitting, check the condition of the spigot surface – remove any contamination and sharp edges that could cut into the hose. Place the clip over the hose before pushing it onto the spigot. Once the hose is in position, slide the clip to the centre of the contact area and tighten the screw evenly, monitoring the torque.
The recommended tightening torque for 9 mm clips is 3-4 Nm – greater force may cut through the hose or deform the band. In installations exposed to vibration, check the clamping force every 6 months. In damp or chemically aggressive environments, W1 steel does not provide sufficient protection – consider A2 or A4 stainless steel clips.
The 25 bar figure applies to installations with rubber hoses of suitable strength and a correctly matched spigot. In practice, the strength of the joint depends on the quality of the hose, the condition of the spigot surface and the clamping force. For high-pressure hydraulic systems, use double-bolt clips or clamp fittings.
