Checking compatibility
Before buying, measure the axle bore diameter in the wheelbarrow frame (it should be 12 mm) and the width of the mounting space (the hub is 97 mm). Make sure the 220 mm rim will fit between the wheelbarrow forks. Size 3.25-8 is the standard used on most construction wheelbarrows with a capacity of 80-100 litres.
Use and maintenance
Before first use, inflate the tyre to 1.5-1.7 bar, checking the pressure with a gauge. Too low a pressure causes faster tyre wear and makes manoeuvring difficult, while excessive pressure can damage the inner tube.
Check the condition of the bearings regularly – any play or resistance when the wheel turns indicates that greasing or replacement is needed. Avoid overloading the wheelbarrow beyond its rated load capacity, as this can deform the rim or damage the bearings.
After working in wet or muddy conditions, clean dirt off the wheel to prevent corrosion of the rim and sand getting into the bearings. Store the wheelbarrow away from direct sunlight, which accelerates the ageing of the rubber.
