A tool for the mechanical stripping of insulation from single-core and multi-core electrical cables. Designed for installation, assembly and servicing work on cables with a cross-sectional area from 0.5 to 6.0 mm².
This value defines the thickness of the cables from which the tool can strip insulation. The range covers the typical installation cables used in domestic wiring (1.5 mm², 2.5 mm²) as well as heavier supply cables (4 mm², 6 mm²). The lower limit of 0.5 mm² allows work with thin signal and control cables.
SK5 is a tool steel with a carbon content of 0.8-0.9%, which after hardening reaches a hardness of 58-62 HRC. The heat treatment process increases the cutting edge's resistance to wear, which translates into a greater number of working cycles without loss of sharpness. This material ensures a clean cut through the insulation without delamination.
Additional ports calibrated for the standard coaxial cables used in aerial and cable television installations. RG59 (6.15 mm diameter) is used on shorter CCTV runs, RG6 (6.9 mm diameter) in DVB-T and satellite installations. These ports allow the outer insulation to be removed precisely without damaging the screen.
The body is made from reinforced polymer, which reduces the weight of the tool and provides electrical insulation. The material is resistant to the typical chemicals encountered during electrical work. The ergonomic profiling reduces pressure on the hand during repetitive operations.

The cross-section of a cable in mm² is usually printed on the insulation (e.g. "H05VV-F 3G1.5"). If there is no marking, you can measure the diameter of the copper conductor with a vernier calliper and calculate the cross-section using the formula: S = π × (d/2)². For a cable with a conductor diameter of 1.78 mm, the cross-section is approximately 2.5 mm².
Before starting work, make sure the cable is disconnected from the power supply. The cable is placed in the appropriate port matching its cross-section, and the handle of the tool is then squeezed. The mechanism automatically cuts the insulation to the correct depth and allows it to be slid off without damaging the copper core.
After finishing work, it is worth cleaning the blades of insulation residue with a soft brush. The tool should be stored in a dry place. If the blades become blunt, they can be sharpened with a fine-grained abrasive or the cutting element can be replaced if the design allows.
A utility knife requires precise cutting of the insulation at an angle with a controlled cutting depth, which increases the risk of damaging the conductors. Wire strippers automatically adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the insulation, eliminating this problem. When working with a large number of repetitions, wire strippers significantly speed up the work and reduce hand fatigue.
