A wood chisel with a blade made from CrV60 chrome vanadium steel, hardened to 58-60 HRC. Designed for precision work on wood and wood-based materials in the joiner's workshop and for model making.
The chrome vanadium steel blade resists wear and deformation. Hardening to 58-60 HRC on the Rockwell scale means the cutting edge stays sharp during intensive work. The HRC figure describes the surface hardness of the steel, and a range of 58-60 is the standard for professional hand tools used for working wood.
Milling the edges of the blade removes any unevenness and ensures even contact with the workpiece. This method produces smoother surfaces after cutting and reduces the risk of the wood splintering along the cut line. Milled edges also make the tool easier to sharpen later on.
The classic wooden handle construction absorbs vibration when the chisel is struck with a hammer or mallet. The metal ferrule protects the top of the handle from cracking and splitting under repeated blows. This design extends the service life of the tool while keeping it comfortable to use.
At 28 mm, this is a versatile width for most woodworking tasks - wide enough to remove material efficiently, yet narrow enough for precise chiselling in confined spaces. It is well suited to carpentry joints, mortises and grooves.

Sharpening the chisel regularly on a 1000-6000 grit whetstone keeps it cutting properly. The standard sharpening angle for wood chisels is 25-30 degrees. Once you have finished work, clean the shavings off the blade and protect it with a thin film of anti-corrosion oil. Storing it in a dry place with a blade guard prevents mechanical damage.
