The hollow punch is a hand tool designed to cut circular holes in soft materials by punching. Model YT-35869 with a 21 mm cutting diameter is used in shoemaking, leatherworking, bookbinding and model-making, where holes of precise dimensions are required.
The cutting edge is made from tool steel, which provides resistance to abrasion and deformation during repeated use. The surface is protected by a black oxide treatment, which increases corrosion resistance and extends the tool's service life in workshop conditions.
The sharpened cutting edge with a diameter of 21 mm cuts holes with a dimensional accuracy of approximately ±0.2 mm. Thanks to the even pressure applied during punching, the material does not tear or deform, which is important for work requiring dimensional repeatability.
The cross-knurled surface of the handle prevents the hand from slipping when pressure is applied. This texture increases comfort during longer punching runs and allows the tool to be guided precisely.
A technical hole in the wall of the punch makes it easier to remove the cut discs of material from inside the tube. Without this feature, the tool would have to be dismantled or the material pushed out mechanically, which would lengthen the working time.

The punch should be held perpendicular to the surface of the material and even vertical pressure applied. For a clean cut, it is advisable to place a backing of hard wood or rubber under the material. Once you have finished, the cut piece of material can be removed through the side hole using a rod or wire.
After each use, clean the cutting edge of material residue with a brush or compressed air. It is worth periodically protecting the metal surface with a thin layer of machine oil, particularly when storing in high-humidity conditions. Avoid striking the blade against hard surfaces, which could cause chipping.
The 21 mm diameter is a universal size, suitable for most shoemaking and leatherworking applications. When choosing a punch, it is worth considering the thickness of the material being worked – the thicker the material, the greater the pressure required. For materials over 5 mm thick, using a mallet to assist punching is recommended.
