Checking compatibility before purchase
Before using the kit, verify the engine code in the vehicle documentation. N47 and N47S engines are marked on the engine identification plate. The kit is not compatible with BMW petrol engines or with diesel units from other series (M47, N57). The vehicle's year of production should fall between 2007 and 2015 for full compatibility with the tools.
Timing tool usage procedure
Before fitting the locking tools, set the piston of cylinder one to TDC (top dead centre) in accordance with the BMW service instructions. The tools are fitted in a specific order: crankshaft first, then camshaft, and finally the chain tensioner. Each component should fit without excessive resistance – forcing it may indicate that the shafts are incorrectly positioned.
Tool maintenance after use
Once work is finished, clean the tools of engine oil and protect them against corrosion with a preservative. Check the working surfaces for signs of mechanical wear. Store them in the supplied case in a dry room. Before each subsequent use, check that the set is complete and that the individual components are in good technical condition.
