Ball-bearing drawer runners

Use and maintenance
Load distribution
Ball-bearing runners are designed to withstand a given load distributed evenly across the drawer surface. Concentrating weight at a single point can deform the drawer base or damage the runners. Heavier tools should be placed in the lower drawers, which lowers the centre of gravity and increases the stability of the whole cabinet.
Runner maintenance
The ball-bearing mechanism requires periodic cleaning to remove dust and metal swarf, which can block the bearings. Every few months, the runners should be wiped with a dry cloth and given a thin layer of silicone or PTFE grease. Thick greases, which attract contaminants, should be avoided.
Cleaning the ABS worktop
The ABS surface is cleaned with a detergent diluted in water. The material is resistant to most solvents, but aggressive chemicals can dull the surface. After contact with engine oils or greases, the worktop should be wiped to prevent permanent staining.
