YATO YT-17580 Spark Plug Thread Repair Kit
Professional kit for repairing damaged spark plug threads in engine cylinder heads. Supplied with an M16x1.25 tap, 15 M14x1.25 thread inserts and installation tools. A solution that removes the need to replace the cylinder head when the thread is damaged.
Thread repair kit features
M16x1.25 tap
Tool used to open up and prepare the damaged hole for fitting the repair insert. The M16 diameter leaves sufficient wall material around the hole once the M14x1.25 insert is fitted, maintaining the mechanical strength of the joint.
M14x1.25 thread inserts
15 steel inserts with an M14x1.25 internal thread matching the standard spark plug thread. The M16x1.25 external thread ensures a secure seat in the repaired hole. Material resistant to high temperatures and engine vibration.
Complete tool set
In addition to the tap and inserts, the kit contains an insert installation tool and an assembly spanner. No additional accessories have to be bought separately. The plastic case keeps the components organised and prevents them from being mislaid.

Spark plug thread repair procedure
Repairing a damaged spark plug thread with the YT-17580 kit is carried out in several stages. Before starting work, clean the area around the spark plug hole and make sure the engine is cold. Removing remnants of the old thread and contamination prevents damage to the tools.
The M16x1.25 tap is used to open up the damaged hole, increasing its diameter and cutting a new thread for the repair insert. The operation is performed by hand or using a drill with torque control. It is important to keep the hole axis true and to avoid tilting the tap.
Once the hole has been prepared, the M14x1.25 thread insert is fitted with the supplied installation tool. The insert is screwed into the M16x1.25 thread and forms a new, stable M14x1.25 internal thread for the spark plug. After installation, blow the hole out with compressed air to remove swarf and contamination before fitting the spark plug.
Engine compatibility
The kit is intended for repairing M14x1.25 threads, which are standard on most petrol engines in passenger cars, motorcycles and small petrol-powered equipment. Before purchase, check the spark plug thread size of the specific engine model – some units use M10, M12 or M18 threads and require different repair kits.
Maintenance and storage
After use, clean the tap and installation tools of metal swarf and oil residue. Lightly oiling the tap with protective oil prevents corrosion during storage. Thread inserts should be protected from moisture and contamination in their original packaging.
