A professional hand tool designed for cutting steel strapping, including the banding used to secure and protect loads in transit. The YT-1930 features a forged high-carbon steel construction with induction-hardened blades, giving lasting edge durability and consistent cutting performance in industrial conditions.
Forged high-carbon steel (HCS) blades, induction-hardened to 58-61 HRC. This falls within the optimum range for cutting tools, combining wear resistance with the strength needed to withstand the dynamic loads generated when cutting strapping of varying thickness.
A maximum cutting width of 28 mm and thickness of 0.8 mm match the standard banding dimensions used in logistics and industry. The jaw geometry grips the strap firmly so it cannot slip as the handles are squeezed shut, which matters when cutting smooth, springy material.
The handles, with a combined length of 305 mm, provide ample mechanical leverage, reducing the force needed to shear through steel strapping. This length balances working ergonomics against cutting efficiency – the cutter can be operated one-handed while retaining full control.
The vinyl handle coating increases friction between hand and tool, minimising the risk of slipping when pressure is applied. Vinyl is also resistant to oils and solvents, which matters in workshop and industrial environments.

Before starting work, check that the cutting edges show no nicks or signs of corrosion. Damaged blades can crush the strap rather than cut it cleanly, increasing the force required to make the cut and reducing accuracy.
Position the strap as close as possible to the pivot of the jaws – this delivers maximum cutting force with minimum effort. Cut with one firm stroke, avoiding repeated squeezing in the same spot, which could deform the material.
After use, remove any fragments of cut strap and other debris from the blades. The pivot can be lubricated periodically with a drop of machine oil, which reduces friction and extends the life of the mechanism. Store the cutter in a dry place to prevent corrosion of the steel components.
