Features of the YATO Universal TCT 51mm Hole Saw

TCT tungsten carbide tips

TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) technology means tungsten carbide tips that stay sharp considerably longer than standard HSS. The material withstands the high temperatures generated when drilling hard materials, which translates into a longer tool life.

Material versatility

The hole saw works in wood, non-ferrous metals and mineral materials such as ceramic hollow blocks, Porotherm, aerated concrete and calcium silicate. This removes the need for separate tools for different surfaces, simplifying the organisation of installation work.

Pilot drill compatibility

The hole saw works with YATO pilot drills with a carbide tip (YT-43990) or HSS (YT-43991, YT-43992). The pilot drill stabilises the hole saw during use and marks the centre of the hole, ensuring drilling precision.

51mm diameter

The 51mm size meets the standard requirements of electrical, ventilation and heating installations. The 5/8'' marking is the imperial equivalent used in tool standards.

Applications of the 51mm Universal Hole Saw

  • Drilling holes for electrical cables in ceramic hollow block walls
  • Installing ventilation ducts in mineral materials
  • Fitting heating pipes in Porotherm or aerated concrete walls
  • Making service penetrations in timber structures
  • Drilling metal profiles and sheet metal during assembly work
  • Renovation work requiring precise 51mm diameter holes
  • Domestic installations and professional construction work

Choosing a pilot drill

For mineral materials and hard surfaces, a pilot drill with a carbide tip (YT-43990) is recommended, as it handles point pressure better. HSS drills (YT-43991, YT-43992) work well in wood and softer metals. Choosing the right pilot drill increases drilling precision and stability.

Using the TCT hole saw

Before drilling, fit the pilot drill to suit the type of material being worked. The drill sets the centre of the hole and stabilises the hole saw during use. For mineral materials, a lower drill speed than for wood is recommended, which prevents the tips from overheating.

When drilling metals, it is worth using a coolant or pausing work to avoid excessive heating of the TCT carbides. In mineral materials, the hole saw may deliver higher performance than diamond drills, particularly in ceramic hollow blocks with a non-uniform structure.

After finishing work, clean dust and swarf from the hole saw. Regularly checking the condition of the TCT tips allows wear to be detected early and the tool to be replaced before drilling efficiency is lost.
