Universal hole saw with tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) teeth, designed for cutting 76 mm diameter holes in wood, metal and mineral materials. The YT-43980 allows accurate installation holes to be cut without the need for a range of specialist tools.
Tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) teeth are characterised by high hardness and resistance to abrasion. The TCT construction provides a much longer service life than standard HSS hole saws, particularly when cutting abrasive materials such as aerated concrete or ceramic.
The hole saw cuts wood, non-ferrous metals, mild steel and mineral materials (Porotherm clay blocks, Suporex aerated concrete, calcium silicate bricks). It removes the need for separate tools for each material type, which lowers workshop equipment costs.
A diameter of 76 mm corresponds to the typical dimensions of ventilation systems, air conditioning ducting and service penetrations. The 5/8 inch size is a standard used in installation systems, which makes installation work easier to plan.
The hole saw works with dedicated YATO pilot drills (models YT-43990, YT-43991, YT-43992). The pilot drill provides stable centring when starting the cut and prevents the tool from wandering across the surface of the material.
| Product model | YT-43980 |
| Manufacturer | YATO |
| Hole saw diameter | 76 mm (5/8 inch) |
| Construction type | Universal TCT (tungsten carbide) |
| Materials cut | Wood, metal, mineral materials |
| Compatible pilot drills | YT-43990, YT-43991, YT-43992 |
Mineral materials require lower drill speeds (300–500 rpm) and moderate feed pressure. Wood can be drilled at higher speeds (800–1200 rpm). Metals require the lowest speeds (200–400 rpm) and the use of cooling. Before starting work, make sure the pilot drill is correctly fitted and tightened.
In materials such as Porotherm, Suporex and calcium silicate, TCT hole saws cut faster than standard diamond drills at a considerably lower purchase cost. The tungsten carbide effectively breaks down the structure of the mineral material without excessive heating of the tool. They do not require specialist water cooling systems.
After use, clean the hole saw of dust and swarf with a brush or compressed air. The TCT teeth can be sharpened periodically with diamond discs, which extends the service life of the tool. Storing it in a dry place prevents corrosion of the metal parts. Check the mounting of the pilot drill regularly.
