A measuring tool for accurately marking straight lines and arcs parallel to an edge on a range of materials. The aluminium body with a graduated arm provides stability when scribing on wood, metal, ceramic and glass.
The aluminium body keeps the tool light while maintaining a rigid construction. The millimetre scale allows the distance of the line from the edge to be set accurately without additional measuring tools.
The moving guide rollers in the metal head allow the tool to slide smoothly along the edge of the material. This design prevents jamming and ensures even pressure when scribing curves and straight lines.
The set includes three types of tip: a steel scriber for metal, a marker for wood and a sintered carbide wheel for hard materials. The exchange system with screws and keys allows the tool to be adapted to the type of material being worked.
The graduated arm with its holder keeps the tip steady while scribing. The clamping mechanism ensures repeatable settings and eliminates play, which translates into precision of the marked lines.
| Model | YT-70730 |
| Brand | YATO |
| Body material | Aluminium |
| Tip material | Stainless steel |
| Scale type | Metric (millimetre) |
| Application | Scribing lines parallel to straight edges and arcs |
| Set contents | Parallel line scriber, steel scriber for marking metal, marker for drawing, carbide wheel for marking hard materials, mounting screws, 2 keys |
The steel scriber is used on soft metals and hardwoods, the marker on non-absorbent surfaces that require a visible line, and the carbide wheel on hard materials such as ceramic, glass or stone. Choosing the wrong tip can damage the material or cause the tool to wear out quickly.
Before starting work, check that the tip is secure and that the distance has been set accurately on the millimetre scale. Play in the clamping mechanism or an incorrect scale reading will lead to errors when scribing parallel lines.
The moving rollers in the metal head require periodic cleaning to remove dust and contamination. A build-up of metal filings or wood shavings in the guide mechanism causes uneven sliding and affects the quality of the scribed lines.
