A carpenter's axe with a hot-forged C45 carbon steel head and a composite fibreglass handle. Designed for chopping and splitting wood in garden, clearance and forestry work.
The head is hot-forged from C45 carbon steel, which gives a uniform material structure and increases resistance to impact. Hardening to 48-58 HRC ensures a long-lasting cutting edge while maintaining resistance to chipping.
The 385 mm composite handle is made from glass-fibre reinforced plastic. This construction offers greater resistance to cracking and deformation than wooden equivalents, eliminating the problem of the head working loose during use.
The handle is coated with a thermoplastic rubber (TPR) elastomer, which ensures a secure grip even in damp conditions or when wearing gloves. The material absorbs the vibration generated on impact, reducing hand and wrist fatigue during longer jobs.
A 600 g head weight strikes a balance between striking power and manoeuvrability. This weight allows precise cuts when working on smaller pieces of wood and for chopping branches without excessive strain on the user.

A C45 steel blade with a hardness of 48-58 HRC needs sharpening with a file of suitable hardness or on a grinder. The recommended sharpening angle for a carpenter's axe is 25-30 degrees. Maintaining the correct angle strikes a balance between edge durability and ease of penetration into the wood.
After use, clean the blade of resin and debris, then protect it with a thin layer of maintenance oil. The fibreglass handle does not require sealing, but the tool should be stored in a dry place, protected from direct UV rays, which can weaken the composite structure.
Before use, make sure the head is securely fitted to the handle. Although the composite construction eliminates the problem of loosening, it is worth checking the joint periodically. When chopping wood, keep a safe distance from other people and make sure the axe's path of travel is clear of obstacles.
