A geared chuck key for tightening and releasing drill chucks on bench drills, pillar drills and hand drills. The tool is made from carbon steel with a black oxide finish and is designed for chucks with a capacity of 1.5-13 mm.
Compatible with most drill chucks fitted to hand drills and stationary drills. The 13 mm capacity covers standard bits for metal, wood and masonry. Always check the marking on the drill chuck before buying.
Carbon steel provides mechanical strength and resistance to deformation when the chuck is tightened. The black oxide finish is a thermal oxidation process that increases corrosion resistance in a workshop environment.
The compact dimensions allow work in confined spaces, for example when changing a bit in a drill mounted on a stand. The length provides sufficient leverage to tighten the chuck without excessive effort.
The teeth of the key locate in the holes around the circumference of the drill chuck, allowing torque to be transmitted. The design prevents the key from slipping while the chuck is tightened or released.

Before use, verify the marking on the drill chuck. Typical markings are "1.5-13 mm" or "1/2 inch" (equivalent to 13 mm). The key must fit the holes in the chuck collar. Keyless chucks do not require a key.
Tighten the chuck in all three holes around the collar, moving the key through 120 degrees each time. Tightening evenly ensures the bit is held securely and prevents runout during work. Do not use excessive force or extension bars.
After use, wipe the key clean of drilling dust and protect it from moisture. The black oxide finish is corrosion resistant, but prolonged exposure to moisture can lead to rust. Storing the key in a dry place extends its service life.
