Technical features of the sanding discs

P40 grit for coarse sanding

The P40 grade is a coarse abrasive intended for removing significant surface irregularities, old layers of paint and lacquer, and for the initial sanding of bare surfaces. The large aluminium oxide grains deliver fast material removal with a high stock removal rate.

Six-hole dust extraction system

The layout of six holes, arranged to match the YATO sander standard, ensures effective dust extraction during use. Improved air circulation prevents the abrasive from clogging and the workpiece from overheating, which extends disc life and improves the quality of the finish.

Semi-open abrasive coating

A semi-open grain distribution leaves spaces between the particles, preventing the working surface from clogging when sanding soft and resinous materials. This increases disc durability when working on wood and painted surfaces.

Hook and loop attachment

The hook and loop attachment system allows worn discs to be changed instantly without additional tools. A secure bond with the sander's backing pad ensures even pressure of the disc against the surface and eliminates vibration when working at high speeds.

Applications of P40 sanding discs

  • Removing old layers of paint and lacquer from wood and metal
  • Initial sanding of bare wood surfaces before finishing
  • Levelling irregularities and removing scratches on steel components
  • Preparing metal substrates before painting or lacquering
  • Coarse sanding of furniture before sanding with finer grits
  • Cleaning welds and rust from steel surfaces
  • Sanding structural components in a carpentry workshop
  • Restoring old furniture that requires deep cleaning

Compatibility with sanders

The discs are designed for use with YATO orbital and random orbit sanders, models YT-09739 and YT-09740. Before purchase, check the diameter of the sander's backing pad (150 mm) and the dust extraction hole pattern. The six-hole standard is common in professional and semi-professional tools.

Construction materials and their role

Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) is the primary abrasive in discs intended for working on metal and wood. It is characterised by high hardness and resistance to fracturing, which ensures long-lasting cutting performance. The epoxy resin bond holds the abrasive grains firmly in position, preventing them from falling out prematurely even under intensive use.

A C-weight (medium) paper backing offers a compromise between flexibility and mechanical strength. This construction allows the disc to conform to minor surface irregularities while retaining the rigidity needed for effective sanding of flat components.

Use and maintenance

When working with P40 sanding discs, apply moderate pressure to the surface. Excessive pressure causes the abrasive to overheat and shortens its service life. Regularly emptying the sander's extraction system ensures optimum performance of the dust extraction holes.

Unused discs should be stored in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Moisture can weaken the bond and reduce the effectiveness of the abrasive. Personal protective equipment is recommended: safety glasses, a dust mask and work gloves.

Value of the 50-piece pack

A pack of 50 sanding discs is a practical solution for workshops and users carrying out larger sanding projects. Under intensive use, a single P40 disc is enough to sand a surface area of around 2–4 m², depending on the hardness of the material and the degree of wear.
