YATO YT-85864 flail mower for two-wheel tractor
Flail mower with a 28-flail cutting system, designed for use with YATO two-wheel tractors. The unit has a working width of 60 cm and is built for cutting dense grass, scrub and tough vegetation over medium and large areas.
Technical features of the flail mower
60 cm working width
This parameter defines the actual width of the cut taken in a single pass. A width of 600 mm is a compromise between work rate and manoeuvrability on plots with varied terrain. At a standard working speed it allows around 2,000–2,500 m² to be cut per hour.
28-flail cutting system
The flail design with multiple cutting edges ensures even shredding of plant material. The more flails there are, the finer the mulch and the neater the finish. The flail system copes with vegetation with stems up to 15–20 mm thick, including weeds with woody shoots.
Cutting height adjustment 1.2–10 cm
The adjustment range allows the mower to be set for different uses: low settings (1.2–3 cm) for amenity lawns, medium (3–6 cm) for meadows and pasture, and high (6–10 cm) for the first cut of overgrown ground. Adjustment is mechanical, by changing the position of the skids.
Steel construction weighing 92 kg
The weight of the unit affects stability during work and pressure on the ground. At 92 kg it provides sufficient ballast for tractors of 6–8 hp, while not exceeding the permissible axle load. The body is made of carbon steel resistant to impact from stones and branches.

Working with YATO tractors
The mower is designed to be mounted on YATO YT-85850 and YT-85851 two-wheel tractors. Before purchase, check the mounting type and the specifications of the tractor. The unit requires an engine of at least 6 hp to deliver adequate flail speed. The mounting system is mechanical, with no additional adapters required.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check the condition of the flails and their mounting. Worn or damaged flails must be replaced, as they affect cutting quality and the load on the engine. Regular maintenance includes cleaning plant debris out of the cutting chamber, lubricating the moving points and checking the condition of the drive belts.
The cutting height should be matched to the type of vegetation and the moisture of the ground. On uneven ground a higher setting is recommended to prevent the flails from coming into contact with the soil. For the first cut of neglected ground, it is advisable to work in two passes – the first at maximum height and the second at the target height.
Storage at the end of the season
At the end of the mowing season, clean the unit thoroughly and check the condition of the flails and fastenings. Metal parts should be treated with a rust inhibitor. Store the mower in a dry room, ideally in a horizontal position on timber battens.
