Features of the YATO YT-2243 crimping tool

Compatibility with RJ45 and RJ11 plugs

Handles 8-pin RJ45 plugs used in Ethernet networks as well as 6-pin RJ11 plugs used in telephone installations. This versatility removes the need for separate tools for different types of installation.

SK5 steel with HRC 42-48 hardness

SK5 carbon steel to the Japanese standard has a higher carbon content, which gives the crimping jaws their durability. A hardness of 42-48 on the Rockwell C scale (HRC) ensures resistance to deformation in repeated use.

Integrated cable preparation functions

The built-in cable cutter, purpose-made CAT5 cutter and insulation stripper allow the cable to be fully prepared without additional tools. This speeds up work during installation.

Ergonomic 200 mm design

The 200 mm length provides the right balance between crimping force and working comfort. The handle has been designed with ergonomics in mind to reduce hand fatigue during repeated crimping.

Differences between RJ45 and RJ11 plugs

RJ45 (8P8C) is an 8-pin plug used in Ethernet computer networks, supporting speeds from 10 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s depending on the cable category. RJ11 (6P4C or 6P2C) is a 6-pin plug used mainly in analogue and digital telephone installations. Physically, RJ11 is narrower than RJ45 and is not suitable for network data transmission.

Use and maintenance

Before crimping, make sure the conductors are arranged to the T568A or T568B standard for RJ45. The cable should be inserted into the plug so that the outer sheath extends past the point where the contacts are crimped. Once crimped, the connection should be checked with a network cable tester.

The crimping tool should be stored in a dry place, protected from moisture. The crimping jaws can be cleaned periodically to remove deposits using a brush or compressed air. The crimping mechanism does not require lubrication. If the crimping force weakens, check whether the crimping dies have worn.

Checking the crimp

Once the plug has been crimped, check that all contacts have pierced the insulation of the conductors and are making electrical contact. This can be done visually or with a continuity tester. A correctly crimped RJ45 plug should withstand a gentle pull on the cable without coming out of the socket.
